. Clear Lake State Park offers diverse activities on one of Iowas most popular lakes. The trails are composed of a variety of crushed rock and grass for use by hikers mountain bikers cross country skiers and snowmobilers. More than 1500 acres surround the lake originally constructed in 1881 after a Missouri River flood.

Hike several trails at Lake Darling winding through wetland habitats around the lake remnants of native prairie and all the way to an 1800s cemetery. Bluestone State Park was established in 1950 and is named after the Bluestone National Scenic River which flows into the New River at the park. Several acres of picnic grounds with tables and grilles are available for day-use.

Before that transaction the area was under development to control and regulate the waters and tributaries of the Tygart Valley West Fork Monongahela and Ohio rivers. Little Beaver State Park was established in 1972 as a day-use park but the site had been a recreational attraction for 4-H campers and anglers since the 1940s when the damming of Little Beaver Creek created an 18-acre lake. The centerpiece of the 1062-acre park is a beautiful 171-acre artificial lake offering expansive fishing and boating opportunities.

Lake of Three Fires was dedicated in 1935 and is named after a group of Native Americans from the Potawatomi. Several multi-use trails wind around the lake featuring the sights and sounds of Iowas native birds. A hotspot for equestrian trail riding and camping Lake of Three Fires State Park in southwest Iowa provides diverse outdoor recreation opportunities.

A 15 mile paved fishing trail along the south shoreline is accessible for all abilities. The 3000-acre lake is a draw for boating fishing and windsurfing. Lake Manawa is one of western Iowas premier spots for boating hiking or just relaxing outdoors.

The land that is now Tygart Lake State Park was given to the state of West Virginia in 1945 in a deed from the US. This trail begins along the park road between Park Headquarters and Cottage Number 1 with a 03-mile unnamed trail to Turkey Spur. The parks 85-acre lake is a local destination for boaters and anglers and several open picnic areas are available near the lake.

The trail connects Cottage and Lake Shore trails and in 04 mile joins with Lake Shore Trail. The parks signature lake was created by the Bluestone Dam which was authorized by presidential proclamation and approved by an act of Congress in the 1930s. The nearby town of Clear Lake is a summer tourist.
